Our Speaker:

Norm Gold is the Developer of The Market @ 25th.  Norm has been working on this project along with Steve and Kathie Markel for approximately 3 years.  Prior to that, Norm was the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of FeedMore, the umbrella organization of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia, and The Community Kitchen.  Prior to moving to Richmond, Virginia, he served as COO of the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, Arizona (SMFBA) for 14 years.   In addition to the COO role, Norm directed an Arizona statewide program, coordinating the yearly delivery of over 70 million pounds of donated food from produce growers and food industry members to food banks across Arizona and the nation.  Prior to food banking, he brought to the nonprofit arena 24 years of food retail industry expertise, the last 9 years as store director of multiple ABCO Foods and Lucky Stores locations in California and Arizona.

After working in retail, Norm decided to pursue a career with a direct impact on the lives of others.  As an advocate for the hungry with diverse executive skills, Norm focuses on enhancing organizational effectiveness through values-driven leadership and a commitment to food safety and quality assurance.   Norm has also done consulting for food banks across the country, disaster relief for Feeding America, and is currently the Ex Officio President of Virginia VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster).  He has done consulting work for Second Harvest Japan in Tokyo (first food bank in Japan) and Second Harvest Asia.  He is currently on the board of Second Harvest Asia.

Norm has three children, Melissa, Matthew, and Alexsandra, and three grandchildren, Michael, Delaney, and Marshall. He is married to Sandy, an amazingly talented artist. After living in Arizona for 24 years, they are very happy to now live on the east coast.  Norm enjoys bicycling, stamp collecting, and spending time with his family.
